About the studio

A classical practice with deep roots.

International Pilates Center is one open room on East Bay Street—fully equipped with Gratz apparatus, the first of its kind in Charleston.

Jamie Trout opened the studio in 2016 after nearly thirty years of teaching. Her goal: to plant roots near family and create a place where people could learn to move with efficiency and freedom.

There’s usually a springer spaniel asleep beside one of the reformers.

Jamie trained in classical ballet at the North Carolina School of the Arts. In 1998, she achieved the level of teacher under Romana Kryzanowska—protégé of Joseph Pilates—who personally administered her test. After teaching in Atlanta, Jamie opened a studio at the Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne in 2001 and taught there for six years while continuing her work under Sari Mejia Santo at True Pilates New York.

Romana recognized Jamie as a Teacher Trainer in 2005. In March 2026, Jamie was promoted to Level 2. She continues to train Romana’s Pilates teachers around the world and returns home to teach in Charleston.

Client experiences

What students say.

I’m in my forties and have tried many other types of workouts over the years, but I have learned more about my body and how it works in only 2 sessions than in all the other years. I’m learning how to activate certain muscles I never use, how to carry my body correctly and how to be mindful of how my body is functioning… after the Pilates lessons I have felt invigorated, my body feels lighter and I can feel myself carry my body in a whole new way.

I recently had the privilege of experiencing Jamie’s incredible abilities during a workshop for Pilates Instructors in Key Largo, Florida. Jamie has both the high-level Pilates wisdom and the acute emotional intelligence it takes to teach well. She immediately relaxed and formed a comfortable bond with me. It was a most rewarding opportunity.
